Run, Yahoos, Run

So The Yahoos decided to take up track

And tonight was their first track meet.

And where of all places?  Well none other than our alma mater.

On the exact track where 15 years ago their daddy ran track and pole vaulted.

We had the best time.

And I left there one proud mama.

Always takes the time to smile for the camera

Run, Yahoos, run.

And the winner is......

I'm not even sure how to describe his stride.  But he won the race nonetheless.

Flying High

Listen.

Do you hear that?

It's the sound of no children in the house because Spring has Sprung!

Hallelujah and Amen!

Waiting for spring to arrive is very similar to the anticipation of the birth of a baby.  Like in pregnancy, the late stages of winter are sometimes grueling and painful.  You try to be creative to pass the time until the due date.  Well, thankfully, winter has given birth to some beautiful spring days around here and we are taking full advantage.

The Yahoos had some kites burning a hole in their Easter baskets and this weekend provided the perfect opportunity to watch them soar.

I use soar very liberally.  Because most of our days were spent getting knots out of  the string and keeping the kids apart so they wouldn't get tangled up with one another.  But once they got the hang of things and their kite did take flight it was lovely.

Yesterday I sat there watching them through the kitchen window.  All of them with their kites.  Darth Vader and Cinderella and Spiderman and one of the Ninja Turtles.  (I never can keep them Ninja Turtles' names straight).  Each kid with their own individual kite. As I watched it was almost as if the kites took on their own personality.  Some of them went straight up and stayed there.  They flew gracefully and high and proud.  Others would start out great but a sudden gust of wind and they plummeted to the earth.  I saw one kite out there tattered and torn and eventually stuck in a tree.  And then there was the poor Ninja Turtle kite that rarely made it off the ground.  It's string stayed wrapped around a little boy's leg most of the time.

These kites.  They all have their own story.  But they all have one purpose.  They were all made to fly.

Our kids.  They will grow up with their  own stories.  Some will soar gracefully, almost like they are dancing through life.    Others will get tattered and torn and might even find themselves stuck up in some trees.  And then there are those that never seem to get their feet off the ground.

Our kids.  They all will have their own stories.  But they all have one purpose. They are all made to worship.

I've been praying hard for my kids these days.  Praying that they don't try to fly on counterfeit winds.  And though I do hope their life will be a graceful one, one that glorifies their Maker, I pray more that any bumps and bruises and tears they do experience will be battle wounds that tell a story of grace and forgiveness and love.

Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:28-31
